The Carroll Jazz program is honored to welcome the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors to Carroll Senior High School for a concert on Friday, April 14th, 2017 at 7:00pm.
The Jazz Ambassadors, the United States Army’s premier touring big band, travels tens of thousands of miles each year to present jazz to enthusiastic audiences throughout the nation and around the world.
The Carroll Jazz Orchestra will play a brief opening set for them, and the Ambassadors themselves are sure to put on an unforgettable performance.

Jazz Band auditions for the 2016-2017 school year will be held on WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 2016. Auditions will take place at Carroll Senior High School (1501 W. Southlake Blvd), in the Black Box Theatre located in the Fine Arts wing (behind the CSHS Auditorium).

The audition will consist of (a) a prepared etude; (b) sight-reading; and (c) an optional performance of an improvised solo. Details are in the cover letter in the PDF linked above.

Director of Jazz Bands
The Carroll Jazz Program has had a busy and exciting Spring, and there is lots more to come!
The Jazz Ensemble won 1st place in their division at the TCU and UTA Jazz Festivals, the Jazz Band won 1st place in their division at the UTA Jazz Festival, and the Jazz Orchestra won 1st place in the 6A-1 division at the UTA Jazz Festival. The Jazz Orchestra also hosted the One O’Clock Lab Band at its annual Apex Jazz Festival in Southlake in February.
In March and April, we will be hosting Swing School, our annual program for Middle Schoolers. Our jazz ensembles will also be playing throughout the Southlake community in April, including a performance at Art in the Square on Sunday April 24th at 3:30pm.
The Spring Jazz Concert is on Tuesday May 3rd at the Carroll Senior High School Cafeteria at 6:30pm. It will feature performances by the Swing School Jazz Band, the DMS Jazz Band, the CMS Jazz Band, and all three high school Jazz Ensembles. The bands will also be joined by guest artist Stockton Helbing, current drummer for trumpet legend Doc Severinsen. Admission is free, so please come out and enjoy the evening!

The Carroll Jazz Orchestra had an unforgettable experience at the Essentially Ellington competition in New York! The band competed against 14 other top-flight groups from around the U.S., and came home with the Outstanding Brass Award and the Outstanding Vocal Award (to Chris Weisberg, for his rendering of "Every Day I Have the Blues").

Southlake Jazz Festival (a/k/a Apex Jazz Festival)
Carroll Jazz students will attend all-day clinics with UNT Jazz faculty and graduate students at Carroll HS. After the clinics, there's a public concert at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake.

Swing School Kickoff
CSHS Jazz Room, 4:00p-5:15p
The Carroll Jazz "Swing School" is a weekly after-school class offered in the spring, designed to give middle school students a chance to study with, learn from, and perform live with high school students in the Carroll Jazz program. The class is held at the Jazz Band Room at Carroll Senior High School on Monday afternoons in March and April.

TCU Jazz Festival, Fort Worth
The Carroll Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble perform at the 37th Annual Texas Christian University Jazz Festival. The festival takes place on the TCU Campus in Fort Worth.

Carroll Jazz Orchestra has earned the title of Finalist in the 2014 Essentially Ellington program, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Essentially Ellington is the largest and most prominent national High School jazz contest, and it is often referred to as the "Super Bowl of jazz competitions." Jazz Orchestra was selected in a blind audition process to join 14 other bands from around the United States to compete the finals, to be held in New York City May 8-11. Jazz Orchestra is the only band from the State of Texas selected for Essentially Ellington this year. The official announcement, including the list of 15 finalists, can be found HERE.
Jazz at Lincoln Center will send a clinician from New York to work with the Jazz Orchestra in April.

TMEA Annual Convention
The Carroll Jazz Orchestra will perform at the annual meeting of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) on Friday, 2/14. The TMEA selected the Carroll Jazz Orchestra as this year's "Invited High School Jazz Ensemble," the only Texas high school jazz group invited to perform at the convention this year.
The concert begins at 10:00am in Ballroom B at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX.

Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Band perform at the 40th Annual University of Texas at Arlington Jazz Festival in the Hereford University Center on the UTA Campus in Arlington.
